Margaret McNamara Educational Grants (MMEG) 2023 Masters Scholarships for Developing Countries

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • be a self-identifying woman, and at least 25 years old at time of application deadline;

  • be a national of a country listed on the MMEG Country Eligibility List (except for the Trinity Washington University program);

  • be registered (not just accepted) at an accredited academic institution when submitting their application;

  • plan to be enrolled for one full academic semester (half-year term) after award of the MMEG grant;

  • plan to graduate no later than two and a half years after the award of the MMEG grant;

  • not be related to a World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund, or Inter-American Development Bank staff member, spouse, retiree, or MMEG Board member;

US-CANADA PROGRAM

This program accepts applications between September 15 and January 15. Successful candidates will be personally notified of the award of grants in April.

Queries may be addressed to us-canada@mmeg.org . The results will be announced on our web page in April.

In addition to the general eligibility criteria, applicants must:

  • already be enrolled as a full-time student, with relevant student visa in national passport;

  • plan to continue studying full-time for at least one academic semester (half year) following the award of the MMEG grant in April;

  • plan to graduate no later than two and a half years following the award of the MMEG grant;

  • not hold US citizenship or permanent residency (green card) or Canadian citizenship or Canadian landed immigrant status.

Remember to read the Application Checklist and FAQs before applying and select “US-Canada program” in the first question of the application. If the program name does not appear, the program may be closed to new applications.

All of the documents listed on Application Checklist are required to complete your application.

Failure to submit a complete application with ALL required documents by the close of the application period will result in ineligibility of the application, i.e., automatic exclusion of the applicant. 

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

TRINITY WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY PROGRAM   

This program accepts applications between September 15 and January 15. Successful candidates will be personally notified of the award of grants in April.

Queries may be addressed to trinity@mmeg.org. The results will be announced on our web page in early April.

In addition to the above criteria, applicants must:

  • already be enrolled as a full-time or part-time (minimum of 2 courses per semester or term) student at Trinity Washington University;

  • plan to continue studying full-time for at least one academic semester (half year) following the award of the MMEG grant in April;

  • plan to graduate no later than two and a half years following the award of the MMEG grant;

  • not be related to Trinity staff.

  • NB: for this MMEG program only, in addition to international students, US citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply.

SOUTH AFRICA PROGRAM

This program accepts applications between May 15 and September 14 each year. Successful candidates will be personally notified of the award of grants in December.

Queries may be addressed to southafrica@mmeg.org. The results will be announced on our web page in mid-December.

In addition to the above criteria, applicants must:

  • already be enrolled part-time (minimum of 2 courses per semester or term) or full-time at one of the universities you find on the list here.

  • be enrolled for at least one academic semester (half year) following the award of the MMEG grant in December (the term between January and July 2023);

  • plan to graduate no later than two and a half years following the award of the MMEG grant;

  • hold a study permit for South Africa if applying from an eligible country other than South Africa.

Estimated expenses should be calculated and expressed in Rand.

YOUR COMMITMENT TO THE MMEG COMMUNITY

Education grants are awarded to women from developing and middle-income countries who, upon obtainment of their degree, intend to work in, or with, a developing country to improve the lives of women and/or children.

We encourage MMEG recipients to inform other students about our grant, and to network with other recipient alumnae.
